Starting a business is a step by step process that needs to be carefully monitored. Building it too quickly can be a financial disaster. Making the right decisions at the right time can help ensure longevity. When we were approached by Scotty’s Loft, located on Dundas Street east of London, ON, to have a shelf or 2 in their new shop we had to consider it carefully. As a business that offers custom work, it needed some thinking outside the box to determine whether this would be a good business move.

Discussions with the owner Alyssa helped form an idea of what we could do in order to have a presence. I felt it was important to be visible in the local area in order to grow the business, and having a shelf or two was much less risk financially that opening an entire storefront ourselves. Knowing the demographics of shoppers to the new store helped in coming up with a product line. Useful items that appealed to women included garden, kitchen and jewellery items. Our signage is at eye-level and includes our business cards (which were all made on the UV laser).

The grand opening is today, so here’s hoping Alyssa and all her vendors have a great day and continued success. The ambiance of the shop is warm and welcoming, with future plans to include a bistro and additional services.

Stop in at 4823 Dundas Street Thorndale (Thames Center) Wednesday to Friday from noon to 8 pm or Saturdays from 10 to 4.
